Global Day + Week of Action 2009 : Advertising

Hello everyone,

In order to make the Global Day and Week of Action as powerful as possible, we need a huge number of countries to patricipate, so we have to inform as many people as possible.

One solution that we talked about during the last chat, is to make videos and spread them as widely as possible. We agreed that several videos could be made, but that a more or less common text had to be written on them. So, we need to discuss this text together.

I propose a text, please feel free to comment it, and add yours.

(1) Everyone has the right to education.Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.

(2) Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.

(3) Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.

(The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 26)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, this right is being swallowed up by the logic of profit.

In your contry...

...as well as in many other countries around the world...

...the struggle is the same...

One World

On struggle

Education is NOT for $a£€ !

Last year, on November, the 5th, X countries went to the streets to reclaim their education, and five months later, 20 countries participated to the Global Week of Action.

We have to get united again !

Global Day of Action : 5th November

Global Week of Action : from 9th to 17th November.

Re:

Well, I don't like this sentence:

"... and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit."

Since I believe "knowledge" and "education" should be generally accessible to all. And not just those who happen to be considered "great achievers".
I would not just concentrate on the vision written out by the United Nations, but also add our own vision for Free (on one hand) and Emancipatory (on the other hand) public education.

Right now I am trying to kick off a discussion on this here.

Although I don't like to reproduce the thinking in "national categories" ("your country" ... "other countries"...), but I don't really know how to make it better right now.

[edit] Since the video is now available in French and English (in its definitive version), could please some of you translate the texts in it in their own languages ?

Thank you in advance !
