Protests against police violence

Hundreds of students flooded the streets of Chittagong (Bangladesh) to protest police violence today [August 14th]. Slogans such as "Why 300 injured? Why 500 arrested? Why 120 criminal cases?" and "We won't pay any extra penny!" were shouted. (NewAgeBd.com, scroll down to 2nd article)

Students at Chittagong University hit back - Protests are spreading!

Thousands of students successfully protested against the introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh on July 26th. The introduction was revoked.

July 26th: Protests against fee hikes in Chittagong and additional taxes on tuition fees in Dhaka (Bangladesh)

About 2000 students took to the streets of Dhaka (Bangladesh), mostly from private universities (e.g. North South University, East West University, American International University of Bangladesh, Brac University and Dhaka International University), to protest against the governments decision to charge a Value Added Tax (VAT) of 4.5% to the tuition fees. In Bangladesh about 23% of students attend private universities. But keep in mind that by far not all are students who would want to study.

July 23rd: protests in Baguio, Odisha and Mahbubnagar

More than 1500 students (out of 2000) joined a walkout at the University of the Philippines in Baguio to protest against tuition hikes and for a sufficient state funding of public education.

July 15th:

More than 2000 students joined a protest at the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka against the increasing privatisation of education and budget cuts for higher education.
